My boys love cookies and request that I make them almost every week. I don’t make them weekly but I always make sure to make them for special occasions. One of my go-to quick and easy cookie recipes is for basic cake mix cookies. I don’t recall where I found the original recipe but these are no-fail cookies. They also happen to be the perfect cookie to have the kids help you with.
Earlier in the week I decided to make some Valentine’s cookies and had the idea to combine one of my boy’s favorite candies with the cake mix cookies. I picked up a bag of Valentine’s colored M&M’s and added it to the batter. The cookies came out so pretty and festive!
- 1 boxed cake mix (I used white)
- ½ cup oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1.5 cups M&M’s candies (optional)
- Mix cake mix, oil and eggs together by hand in a large bowl.
- Gently stir in candies.
- Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop up cookies onto parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-12 minutes (depending on your oven) or until cookies are slightly brown on the edges.

I bought some cake mix (lemon flavored but only $.29 a box) knowing that there would be something fun to make. I let my kids make the cookies (ages 4, 7, and 8). They loved them! I didn’t see a bake temperature but guessed it would be 350… It worked! I chose your recipe because it was the first one I found that I had all the ingredients. Thanks for the fun, simple recipe!

Okay…These look simple and easy. My daughter and I are always trying little how-to things. She was trying to make some type of dessert yesterday and couldn’t find this or that ingredient. I don’t normally use cake mixes (not that I am always from scratch), but I think we may be able to pull this off. I might have to put a ribbon on it to make it as cute as yours though!

I tried these cookies and they were ok but they turned out quite flat. Not really what I was expecting. Yours look way better. Not sure if it was the cake mix I bought but I won’t be making this one again.
I’m sorry that they didn’t turn out for you. The cake mix I used was a Pillsbury White cake mix although I don’t know if that makes a real difference. Thanks for your comment.
