How We Survive the Cold & Flu Season

October 24th, 2009 by Andrea

As a family we are generally pretty healthy people. My children have been to the Dr. because they were sick once each in the last two years. I am very blessed that they are so healthy especially since they were both preemies. When they were infants they had to get shots to prevent them from getting RSV during this time of year but now we just practice some common (health) sense.

  • We wash our hands frequently; before eating, after toileting, after playing outside, etc.
  • I keep Kleenex around the house for them to use instead of their hands and clothes.
  • I also keep Germ Ex in my purse to have on hand when we can’t wash our hands.
  • I use Clorox disinfecting wipes on everything multiple times a day. These things are lifesavers!
  • My children drink a lot of orange juice and eat a lot of yogurt. I believe both of these things contain essential vitamins to ward of the cold and flu.

Thankfully this year so far all we have is a bit of a cold. Nothing major just a cold. Hopefully we won’t have to fight off the flu. I am considering getting my children vaccinated but I haven’t decided yet. Tom is against it because he says he always got sick as a child when he got vaccinated. I am thinking that it may be a good idea. I think I am going to have a talk with the pediatrician when we go get their physicals in the next few weeks.

If you are looking for some great homeopathic ways to prevent the cold and flu Boiron makes some great stuff for children. You can find a $1.00 off coupon here.

Are you going to have your children vaccinated against the flu or H1N1? I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject!

I despise cold/flu season. Isabella got the nasal spray vaccine for the reg flu and has done surprisingly well. I got the shot, feel like I have a cold now and my arm hurts…lol!

Stay healthy girl. That swine flu was no joke :(
