We are really enjoying taking evening bike rides on our new Schwinn bicycles. It is way too hot and humid during the day to ride so we go for our rides when the sun is starting to set. Often after our bike rides we are hungry for an evening snack and I thought I would share some of our favorite healthy post-ride snacks with you.

  • peanut butter sandwiches
  • oatmeal and a banana
  • grilled cheese sandwiches
  • cheese and crackers
  • bagel with cream cheese *my favorite*
  • mandarin oranges
  • cottage cheese with pears

Did you know that riding at a moderate speed for 30 minutes can burn 23 calories in a half hour? If you gradually build up your stamina to riding an hour every day you could possibly burn enough calories to lose 1 lb. a week. That is a very healthy weight loss goal and one hour isn’t that much time.

My husband has been riding more often than I have and he has lost close to 20 lbs. since we received our bikes in late May! This shows that if you eat healthy and incorporate some sort of exercise into your daily routine you will lose weight. Bike riding is a great way to get your exercise while doing something fun with your family.
